Julia Pinkovetskaya, Candidate of Sciences (Economics), assess women percentage in the number of students of higher educational institutions in the regions of Russia

Historically, higher education was   the men's prerogative, but how does it work now?

In the twentieth century, male students dominated higher education in most countries.  And there is the opposite trend at the beginning of the XXI century. The article considers indicators that characterize the share of women in the total number of students of higher educational institutions in the regions of Russia.

The study used official statistical information from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation for 2017-2020 on the number and gender structure of students studying at higher educational institutions in 82 regions of Russia.

The results of the computational experiment showed that, on average, feminization of higher education was observed in the regions, since the proportion of women in the number of students ranged from 52% to 55%. At the same time, in most regions, the number of female students exceeded the number of male students.

The study showed that the territorial location of the regions does not significantly affect the maximum and minimum values of the indicators.
